"Sea Angler II" is a Lochin 33 Sports Fisher MCA COP for 10 plus 2 Crew. Located in Plymouth with the prolific surrounding waters holding a variety of species to specimen sizes. Owner and Skipper is Malc Jones. Malc ensures that whatever the weather you are always in with a chance of a fish or two. Plus he makes a good cup of tea to keep you going. Having fished with Malcolm on several occasions I cannot speak highly enough  of him.

The Famous Eddystone Reef and Light is just one of the famous marks available to fish.

Sea Angler Top tips.

1.10 ft leaders are long enough. In heavy water even shorter for the “hopper” effect.

2.Orange and yellow shads work good for Cod. But if it goes quiet try a silver and blue.

3.Weighted shads such as the Sidewinder are good lures but sometimes an unweighted shad will be better.

4.Put a swivel three feet from the lure to stop the leader twisting.

5.If the leader still twists, put another swivel in the leader or join two swivels together.

6.Check your knots, we all tie a bad one now and again.

7.Run your fingers down your leader after every fish. Feel for chafed or nicked line. If it is rough change it or you may just lose that specimen next drop!

8.Fishing snaggy bottom put your sinker on a “rotten bottom” that will break out if it gets snagged.

9.If your leader tangles back onto your main line, slow your speed of drop.

10.If it still tangles back use a longer boom and slow your speed of drop

Richard Paul landed his personal best Plaice of 5lbs 12oz whilst drifting a bank aboard Flamer IV. Richard was using a Shakespeare 12Ib class Ugly Stick rod with a flowing trace, The successful bait was strips of Ammo mackerel and squid.

Flamer IV

Over the coming months I will feature some of the UK Charter boats and post regular catch updates from them. First in line is Flamer IV.

February saw the launch of Flamer IV out of the port of Weymouth. Skippered by Colin Penny Flamer IV is a 39ft Procharter P4 powered by an Iveco 450hp turbocharged diesel engine. With an MCA 60 mile license Flamer IV is available for charter all year round and will take up to12 fishermen plus crew. Colin is an acomplished captain with both many notable magazine awards and fish to his credit. Weymouth is also a great place to fish out of with a wide variety of both species and fishing ground to be found at varying distances out of port. Making for some fanatastic fishing at almost any time of the year.

After sea trials Flamer IV started fishing in March. The first trip was a wrecking day. Robin Amor had the honour of catching the first fish on the new boat. Robin went down with small baited hoki’s to catch a pout in his quest to be the first but never reached the bottom catching two mackerel instead on the drop! During the trip however some nice pollack were caught along with two ling a cod and some monster pouts. Bill Oliver and Mick Nunn were the most successful anglers aboard. Mick Nunn is pictured with his best pollack weighing in at 14Ib 8oz which took a sidewinder lure.Mick is proudly wearing his Flamer 4 fishing cap.
