Saltwater catches and tackle updates

April fishing picks up…..

John Hole from Sussex landed his personal best Spurdog which weighed in at 18Ib. John caught the big spur while anchored on a bank aboard Flamer IV. John was using a Shakespeare up-tide rod with a pennel rig of Sakuma  6/0 and 4/0 hooks baited with a cocktail of Ammo squid and Mackerel.

He also had a right old struggle trying to land a 25Ib Blonde Ray. Both fish were returned alive.

Dave Metcalf (above) from Dorset also landed a personal best Spurdog which weighed 17Ib.Dave caught the big Spur whilst also fishing at anchor. Dave was using an up-tide rod and the successful bait was a cocktail of Ammo squid and mackerel mounted on a pennel rig. The Spurdog was returned alive.

Clive Morgan from Poole caught a 21Ib Blonde Ray while drifting a bank. Clive was using 20Ib class tackle with a flowing trace baited with a strip of Ammo mackerel. The male ray was returned alive.

Ashley Furguson (above) from Hampshire on his first ever trip aboard Flamer IV landed a 7lb Turbot on the first drift of the day. Ashley was using a Shakespeare 30lb class Ugly Stick rod and a Penn 4/0 reel with a flowing trace baited with a strip of Ammo mackerel.
