Whitby Sea Report for April

Sea Otter 2 April Fishing Report

April has seen some fantastic cod fishing here at Whitby. Great weather and calm seas have seen some fantastic fishing with large numbers of Cod and Pollack being brought to the boat.

April is also the month that Whitby charter skippers hold their Spring festival over a 2 week period during which the lucky angler catching the biggest fish receives a cheques for £1000!

Once again Sea – Otter 2 was the boat that found the big one for local angler Paul Britton who came out on top with a cod just over 15lb. Paul is an ex commercial fisherman and now loves just fishing for fun. Paul was using a Penn 33GT matched to a Shakespeare 30lb class Ugly Stick rod.

May prospects look great and my favourite shads and jellys really come into play as the water clears from the current algae bloom. Berkley Hollowbelly Shads fished well during April so they should be dynamite in the clear water. Overall prospects for this year look outstanding and I am sure that 2011 will go down as the year of the Cod in Whitby!
