Colin Leadbeater from Bristol landed a 20Ib Ling aboard Flamer IV while drifting a wreck. Colin was using a 20Ib class Shakespeare Ugly Stick rod with a flying collar rig and a silver lure.

“SODS LAW” Graham Gardner from Colchester had not long recovered from a hernia operation and was on his first fishing trip since his operation. Colin Penny owner of Flamer IV said to Graham “Sods Law says you will get the biggest fish” Sure enough that is was happened. First Graham caught a 40Lb Conger eel and then followed that with a superb 26Lb Cod. Graham was using 20Ib class tackle with a pennel rig baited with Ammo squid and mackerel. Of course Colin kept asking Graham if he was ok while he was trying to land the two big fish. Graham is pictured with his 26Lb Cod

Blue Marlin 1320lbs

From Carp to Marlin……How about this as your first Blue Marlin? A fish of 1320lb caught off Ascension on the 18th of February. The angler was Berkley Gulp bait tester Kevin Gardner….Fight time was 3hrs and the fish was in bad condition at the boat so it was taken in and weighed. Great fish well done to the team of Captain Olaf Grimkowski and Phil Riley aboard the Harmattan.

For good measure Kevin also caught a 234lb Big Eye Tuna.

and released a Six Gill shark estimated at 900lbs……Bet those Rainbow lake carp will now seem a lot smaller in the summer Kev.

The boat was captained by Greg DiStefano, who put Yocom on the fish approximately 100 miles off the coast of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Yocom and another angler were chunking to a school of yellowfin, taking turns with the rod and reel, and Yocom just happened to be “the lucky one” who fed the record fish. Fifty minutes later – a relatively short fight for a yellowfin of that size – Yocom had reeled in what would be the world’s next All-Tackle yellowfin tuna record.

“We started hearing about the catch almost as soon as it was back at the docks,” IGFA World Records Coordinator Jack Vitek said. At the docks in Cabo, Yocom’s fish was weighed on an IWS Scale Master II digital scale that was successfully re-certified in San Diego just a few days after the weighing, confirming the accurate reading of 193.68 kg (427 lb).

“Yocom and his crew knew they had a shot at the record and they made sure all their gear and techniques were compliant months before the catch was made,” Vitek continued. “So once the weight was confirmed, Yocom immediately got to work on submitting the application and all the other requirements.” With the scale certified, line samples and photos submitted and the application completed, all aboard El Suertudo have been eagerly waiting to hear whether their efforts would result in an approved record.

Over the past 90 days, the IGFA’s World Record Review Committee has thoroughly reviewed Yocom’s record submission including the tackle used, the supporting photographs, and witness testimonies, and has determined that all IGFA rules were followed. Yocom’s fish has earned him both the new All-Tackle record and men’s 60 kg (130 lb) line class record, which previously belonged to Mike Livingston who broke the record less than two years ago with a 183.7 kg (405 lb) yellowfin he caught off Magdalena Bay, Mexico.

“Breaking the All-Tackle yellowfin tuna record within two years of Mike Livingston is really remarkable,” added Vitek. “Prior to Livingston’s catch in November of 2010, that record had stood for 33 years. Many people thought we’d never see a yellowfin tuna over 400 pounds, and in the past few years we’ve had two 400+ lb fish submitted for records and even more reported.”

Sometimes it can be more about who catches the fish than about their size!

On a recent family holiday to Fuerteventura I took along a couple of telescopic poles for my two boys to have a fish with. I doubt if we caught anything over 20cm all week but they had three short matches with points for species. I must admit that I enjoyed watching them just as much as catching a big one myself

Below are two very successful Plaice traces.

John used several combination baits which included ragworm, Ammo black lugworm, squid and razorfish.

On the same trip Ian Slater, Tracy Robertson and David Robertson all caught Personal Best Plaice and got in the act of returning big Plaice. They released 5Ib 8oz, 5Ib 4oz and 5Ib 14oz Plaice.

They were all using 10Ib class tackle with single hook traces baited with ragworm and strips of Ammo squid.
“I think this practise of putting back big Plaice is Brilliant and can only help conserve stocks”.

World-record yellowfin tuna disqualified – because a deckhand touched his fishing rod as he fought the mighty fish.

Robert Pedigo hooked the 427.9-pound fish on Thursday April 12th and fought it for 30minutes before bringing it aboard the “Journeyman.” But everyone on board agreed that Danny Osuna, a local captain working that day as a deckhand, blew the record by touching Pedigo’s rod during the battle between man and fish off the coast of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The IGFA rules say an angler can’t have any help pulling in a fish if he or she wants to make history.

“I do this for a living and we’re really hardcore fishermen,” Osuna told FoxNews.com. “We have caught a lot of fish in the high 300s, but this is the first time we’ve caught something this BIG.”

Osuna admitted touching Pedigo’s fishing rod, disqualifying the catch from consideration by the International Game Fish Association. But he said Pedigo, who could not be reached for comment, isn’t too broken up about the technicality.

“We’re fine with that,” Osuna said. “Actually, we never even thought the fish would be that big.”

Osuna said everyone who was in on the fishing trip got a big meal out of the monstrous catch before the rest was given away.
