Gannet is a Penn sponsored boat operating out of the Scottish port of Oban in Argyll on the beautiful West Coast of Scotland. It is skippered by Adrian Lauder. Adrian has fished the Oban coastline and waters for close to 40 years.  During that time he has built up a comprehensive knowledge of Skate fishing and the local marks. In July 2010 Adrian was awarded a Gold Tagging Cap by the Scottish Shark Tagging Programme. This coveted award is only presented to those boats who have tagged more than 100 Skate as part of the programmes conservation aims.

Adrian is a qualified member of the Royal Yachting Association Coastal Skipper Award and a member of the Professional Boatman’s Association,
Argyll Charter Boats Association 

Up to 8 anglers for are taken for a skate fishing charter on an all-inclusive basis  – all rods, reels, lines, lures, lead, hooks, traces and bait are provided on board.


There is a small resident population of skate in the area around Oban and all fish caught are tagged and released alive, and the data collected submitted to the  on-going Scottish Shark Tagging Programme whose study has helped in assessing the growth and movements of common skate.

The Boat – Gannet

Gannet is a Q33 High Performance Fastworker with an overall length 36 feet and beam of 11feet 4ins. Power is provided by 2 x turbocharged Sabre Diesel Engines that give 510hp. Getting you to the fishing grounds and back in a short space of time. She cruises at 16 – 18 knots laden, with a top speed of up to 25 knots un-laden.
