I was invited up to Centre Parcs for the day with my children. The idea was to go swimming etc but that wasn’t really the sport I was interested in,
although I pretended to be keen I hoped I would get a chance to do a little bit of angling, well the rods were in the car….. I was going fishing !! Lily and Jake enjoyed the other sports activities on offer until lunchtime and then Jake joined me to have a little go for the carp in the main watersports lake. We saw a lot of fish near to the beach and marina but this was out of bounds so we plotted up in the swim nearest to this area, unfortunately we couldn’t sneak a line onto them as a bridge blocked our casting line. I cast out a 12mm single hookbait on Jakes rod and opted for a bright pop up on mine. We waited about twenty minutes for our first run and after a spirited battle Jake landed his first Centre Parcs mirror. With numerous holiday makers watching him from the bridge we didn’t struggle to find a photograpther to take a couple of pictures for us. Jake was soon into another fish so I changed my setup to a small bottom bait and started tying small bags ready for attachment on each cast. This worked a treat and we struggled to get both our rods in the water at the same time. The key to success was small Tuna Spice Gulp! baits and small bags of crushed boilies with regular casting, although the regular casting came about due to the amount of runs we were getting it was the way forward on this occasion. I am off back to Centre Parcs for a days angling with a friend who works there so I plan to take the light tackle and try to mimic our success….I’ll let you know how I get on.
