I’ve a busy couple of weeks coming up. This weekend, 26/28th February, I’ll be at the European Beach Championships based in Bridlington. In 2009 well over a thousand anglers fished the event, and this year we’re told the event will be even bigger with a large contingent of European anglers joining those based in the UK.
The weekend kicks off with a flounder competition on the Friday afternoon. The main competition is fished over two days on the beaches south of Bridlington all the way to Spurn Point, plus this year the fishing will be over the bigger spring tides and there could be some really big cod caught.
For the first time, Pure Fishing will be there with a stand displaying just some of the sea fishing product available from the ABU, Penn and Shakespeare brands. I’ll be spending time on the stand and will look forward to chatting with those of you able to attend.
The following weekend I’m up in Glasgow for the Glasgow Angling Centre open weekend. It begins on the Friday but I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday aiming to help out with any Penn, ABU and Shakespeare tackle questions you might have.
By the time I get home its just about plaice fishing time, though I’ve a feeling the plaice might be a little later than normal after this very cold and persistent winter weather. The first crab peel getting underway is critical to bring the early plaice on the feed for the shore angler, and this will be the key factor in determining when the plaice turn up. I’ll keep you posted when I make my first trip for them.
