James Vincent Carp Capers….

Spring is in the Air

Archive Re-Post

Spring seems to have finally arrived!

Spring has been trying to break the cold snap for the last few weeks with temperatures rising only for the conditions to drop back down to freezing two days later. The flowers of spring have started to blossom with the birds nesting since mid January on my local syndicate. With their confusion of the arrival of spring it’s no wonder the fish have been elusive with no real patterns forming. I have struggled to get on the bank this winter, only a couple of piking trips with a dozen or so fish to upper doubles. I had a fantastic year fishing a day only water last year, I also managed to acquire the lease on another water which gave up some awesome old looking carp on the dozen or so overnighters I spent on it. Time this year is going to be even more limited than last so I have decided to drop a couple of tickets as I need to use my time more effectively….. My son Jake has developed into something of a footballer so Sundays I’m driving all over
East Anglia to his under 8 matches and Friday nights he’s at

Norwich
City
’s Player Development Centre. The joys of parenting, that said my 9 year old daughter loves short session fishing so that’ll work for me this year. I’ve also been approached by a friend who owns some land with the odd pond or two, I’ve advised they need to make them a little larger, easily done as they own a plant hire company, I’ll keep you posted but it’s going be a year or two on that project even if it gets off the ground.

I visited the day only water that I’m looking to drop the ticket for this year. There are some stunning fish with 6 over the 20lb mark and two over the 30lb mark, I’ve faired very well on there this year with two low twenty commons left to catch. The ticket runs out at the end of March so I thought I’d have a couple of trips before calling it a day. The water had been very quiet with the last fish gracing the banks in September but I was carping again so I really didn’t mind the lakes form. My organisational skills aren’t the best and I ended up on the lake around midday having to leave at 15.30 to collect my children from school. Now time and form were against me, just to round things off halfway through the afternoon it started to rain, all I had in the car was somebody else’s bright red golfing brolly. The day didn’t turn out to be a complete disaster though as I managed one of the remaining commons I had yet to catch just under 22lb and whilst doing the self takes the other rod rattled off resulting in a mid double common. All keen I’m hopefully heading back later this week before I set my sights on other waters. A fishing trip to

France
in three weeks needs a little preparation too. …..
