I decided that there must be some more of those pretty mirrors and went back for another day session. I opted to fish the same swim as on the previous visit, not good to turn up with ideas already in your head but after the success of the last visit it had to be a good starting point. Problem with this swim is that the owner is building a house close by so the fishing trip tends to end up in a social and moving onto fish never really seems to happen, albeit a little lazy makes for a relaxing day. The rods hadn’t been out long when the middle one which was cast over the back of the bar sounded a stuttery take. I picked up the rod and instantly knew what was attached, the way they fight is so tell tale, without any bream in the water it had to be one of the grass carp. I had only ever caught one from this particular venue at little over the 10lb mark but there are obviously smaller ones present….
I didn’t weigh the fish and returned it, not before being beaten up on the bank though, Grassies are notorious for fighting once in the net and on the bank and this capture certainly wasn’t going to break the mould. It wasn’t long before the same rod was off again with another grass carp attached of around the same size as the previous. The margin rod did finally go but like on my last visit anything hooked on that rod fell off. It wasn’t all bad though as the middle rod was off again, yet another grass carp…. Another take and again, another grass carp, the pretty mirrors seemed to have gone in hiding with the commons also deciding to be elusive for the day. I packed away around
