As explained in a previous post, PENN has developed some good, innovative and patented drag systems. The Dura Drag has been explained already and now I want to tell you more about the Versa-Drag™ system.
The Versa-Drag™ is a patented drag system with HT-100 washers that allows anglers to pre-determine a targeted drag range by rearranging the sequence of keyed metal washers and tabbed friction washers. Penn Versa-Drag™ provides a tremendous drag range regardless of what line-class and drag settings you are fishing.

Possible settings with the Versa-Drag™ system
Let´s take the International TRQ 300 Lever Drag as an example. This conventional reel provides the angler 3 possible settings on the drag that will suite his style of fishing, other materials and circumstances.
• The light setting gives a maximum pressure of 8 lb at strike
• The medium setting gives a maximum pressure between 8-20 lb at strike
• The heavy setting gives a maximum pressure of more than 20 lb at strike
The overall maximum pressure you have is 32lb on the 300 model.
The Versa-Drag™ system isn´t only applied on conventional reels, but it is applied on the TRQ Spin reel as well. Depending on the model you can adjust the maximum pressure on this reel as well with a maximum of 50 lb(!) on the 9000 size.
You can recognize a reel with the Versa-Drag™ system by the following logo on the box:
Inside the box you will find a manual which explains how to adjust the drag and how to rearrange the washers.
Finally you will find a list with all the current models that have the Versa-Drag™ system on board.
• The International TRQ Lever Drag
• The Squall Lever Drag
• The Fathom Star Drag
• The TRQ Spin
Soon there will be more information about PENN specific features.

Robert
