I had just caught Heart tail from Friday Lake and needed a new challenge. On a Friday night in my local tackle shop Oakwood Angling my new target fish was found, whilst having a social after closing a mirror carp called Starburst was brought to my attention. She resided in a lake Bedford a hard very very weedy lake known as Willingtons. Luckily for me Rich was in the shop and mentioned about going for her. YEP that’s definitely my kind of water, ultra hard a BIG mirror weedy...

After the capture of the Big girl from Willows Lake in Witham I had planned on fishing a 120 acre lake in the Lea Valley, On walking the water a number of times I was put off by the amount of Eastern Europeans camping partying and just by the shear amount of rubbish and noise they were making. I was confronted by a group of them and decided that this is not for me I go fishing to relax I don’t want to sleep with one eye open. So until I find another lake to fish I deci...

My son and I, whenever we are texting or emailing each will sometimes start the conversation with the words ‘Net this’ this implies that the either Lee or me will be netting the fish for them and not actually catching. Just winding each other up which has got to be done of course. Lee had managed to get Friday off work (I myself; do not work on a Friday which is handy to so the least) so we arranged for him to pick me up on his way past with Milo. On the Thursday night after ...

BURTON ANGLING FESTIVAL 2012

The conditions that greeted the sell out field for the 2012 Burton Angling Festival was never going to make fishing easy – a cold, very clear River Trent, coupled with bright sunshine and blustery winds, put a slight dampener on the weights of previous years, but it produced a cracking tight contest fit for a 3 day festival of this stature. By the end of Day 1 Wayne Swinscoe had started the ballrolling – drawn on the Crown Meadow, Peg 7 at Shardlow, starting on the stickfl...

It’s been a while since I wrote my first blog and has been an eventful September since then! Still persevering at catching fish out of Silvermere, Surrey and still introducing Gulp! Baits, I have done 8 nights which can only be described as eventful! After having the Breamy Tailed Common earlier this month at 28lb 12oz on Squid & Liver, I decided to switch to a baiting pattern of Halibut & Crab 20mm’s. Only getting to fish Friday and Saturday nights I knew that I had...

Hi everyone I’ve had a over nighter on the estate lake and my plan was to get on the wind again and fish over My pre bait that I have been putting in. So I got to the lake at 2pm and got the rods in place and was happy to see the odd fish show within 50m of my baited spots, by 7 am the following morning I had very much blanked and was a little upset as I had fish show and in the night I had heard one or two crash right on my right hand rod so it was time to make good of a b...

I had the opportunity for another overnighter this week Friday 1st being the night. I arrived at the lake at about 1430 and it didn't take long to find the fish they were all fizzing and jumping in front of a swim called the beach so the barrow was quickly loaded and wheeled round there. First off the barrow is my bucket filled with Squid+Liver along with my throwing stick and I put half a kilo out on the fish then promptly set up the rods. One rod was baited with a single...

Hi everyone , at the moment as I arrive at my swim the weather is bright and sunny with a cold North Westerly blowing quite a change from the mild weather of late . Need to make the most of this trip because according to weather men the tail end of the Hurricane to cause havoc to southern states of America is expected to arrive here by the weekend . The first of six fish that I catch on this trip comes at 4pm a nice looking mirror of 9lb 15oz , the remaining five fish all...

I arrived at my Local Club Lake, at around 3:30pm after School, and began the session by hastily tying a 3oz lead to my Mainline, and began casting around to find a suitable Bottom to fish over. As I pulled the lead along the Bottom, I found mainly silt, but then came the sudden TAP TAP sensation of Gravel. I knew The Lake quite well already and had a reasonably good idea of the depths of certain areas, and I knew that this Gravel Bar was at the bottom of a steep slope of sil...

Hi all, I’ve just been newly recruited into the Gulp! Carp Army (which I’m absolutely buzzing about!), so this is a brief introduction about me and my fishing… At 19 I’m probably one of the younger members here, but I’ve still been a fisherman for around 15 years, starting with match-style fishing and progressing to carping over the last 4 or 5 years. I’m also a big sea angler, so I’ve certainly had my fair share of fish. With my age does come enthusiasm, which I think impr...
