The thought of venturing onto the water to test a new product is always very appealing! The reality is that there are usually other jobs that need to be completed first. This is where our network of professional fishermen comes in very handy! Their testing and feedback ensures that when we put Penn on the finished product we can be sure that it will perform as you want it to! Andre Henn (Advanced Sportfishing Network) is just one of those professionals who works very cl...

All About Bass

I’ve decided to do a lot more lure fishing for bass this year. This will mostly be here in Wales on my local patch, but I’m also looking forward to a fishing exchange with Sylvain Legendre, a French lure specialist working for Pure Fishing, and comparing “bass on lure” techniques both in France and the UK. As I’m writing I’m surrounded by the tackle I’ll be using. My personal choice of rod will be the ABU Revo Bass 802 which I’ll be using for most of my shore and boat fish...

Pike Trip

Pike trip Finally, the floods have receded on my local river pike venue. Bursting over the banks and chocolate coloured with ice-bergs rushing past is not conducive to a decent day pike angling, but at long last, standing at the river side, the water is fining down nicely. Although there is still a fair bit of snow lying, the temperature has risen dramatically from minus nine or lower, to a bearable zero degrees, a vast improvement to say the least! Surely the pike wil...

For a long time I’ve had a dream of catching a double figure halibut off the shore. I’ve caught quite a few halibut from boats, but prior to mid February, I’d only caught one small 2lb fish in Iceland while shore fishing. I was due out in central Norway to fish with Ian Peacock, UK representative of Din Tur, a Norwegian adventure holiday company, and joining me would be friend and work colleague Steph Monaghan from Pure Fishing. We had already enjoyed several good days ...

Hampton ferry pairs league last round. This chub came during the third hour of a five hour match. The fish took double red maggot on a small blockend feeder over bait dropped maggot. Combined with bleak on the whip my total weight went 9.4.0 enough for second on the day overall and clinched the pairs title as well! Happy days.

Target Flatfish For Fun

By

23-02-2011

Mid February through to the end of March is always a tough time for shore anglers. Most adult fish will have moved offshore to spawn leaving only generally smaller fish to fish for. Persistent gales, heavy rain and lots of weed have not made for easy fishing of late either.  I have been out though, mainly targeting flatfish, when the sea state has allowed, and I’ve been doing okay. I’ve kept my fishing sessions short, just looking to fish over the key period of the tide wh...
